The Sunday Long Read, 10/6/19

EDITORS’ NOTE: Happy Sunday!

This is Jacob writing—Don and Etienne produced this week’s edition—but I wanted to first thank everyone for the kind words and well wishes you’ve sent this past week. For those who haven’t seen, my time at Sports Illustrated ended Friday along with many of my colleagues’ as TheMaven took control of the publication.

So: if you have any tips (employment-wise or Netflix-related), you can reach me at jacobfeldman4@gmail.com or on Twitter @jacobfeldman4. I also now have a cadre of talented fellow ex-staffers to recommend for all sorts of potential roles if you’re in the market.

Gathering stories here each week for nearly five years, I’ve constantly been reminded of journalism’s unmeasurable yet undeniable value, especially during times difficult and confusing. Meanwhile, your continued—and growing—interest in these stories strengthens my faith that there is still a desire for such critical work, today more than ever.

That’s why I’m excited to rejoin the fray full-time somewhere soon. Until then, I’ll do what I can to support powerful storytelling through the SLR. I’m looking forward to making a dent in my to-read towers, physical and digital, starting with this week’s inspiring list.
